Listening to the radio last night I heard a discussion on how blogging, when blogging was new, was a popular tool used by political junkies to express themselves.  There were some who used blogs only as a forum to rant and rave (like a.m. radio), but others saw an opportunity to interact with the world.  I’m an occassional reader of blogs (I like boing boing, the shifted librarian, etc), but I tend to keep to myself.  Maybe that will change…

sam – it is interesting that the blog grew out of political rants. and then quickly mututated into something else – sort of like boing boing – an alternative “news” source/info culling machine. where it seems to be now is: floating around posing as this “must have” marketing tool and an avenue for every comment or rant or rave [no matter how inane] it is supposedly an avenue to give “voice.” an medium designed to directly reach a world of folks who supposedly want to talk about anything and everything. and the shocking thing is they do. the question for me is: who is listening?

It does seem like a lot of yelling into the forest…Here is a Pew study that tried to answer how many people are reading, or have read blogs.
